ATLANTA (March 17, 2017) – Ali Doswell of Amherst College is the 2017 WBCA Division III Player of the Year and headlines the 2017 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches’ All-America team, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today.
Doswell made history this past February — becoming Amherst’s all-time leading scorer (1,417) and leader of three-pointers (250) in a win over Bates College. Since then, she has recorded 1,535 points and 271 three-pointers.
Under Doswell’s leadership, Amherst earned a berth into its second-consecutive NCAA Division III Women’s Final Four. The Purple and White finished the regular season 24-0 and remained undefeated throughout the NCAA Division III Championship Sectional Final.
Doswell was named one of 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy, and received a position on the 2017 Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District first team.
The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in each of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, junior/community college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches’ All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division.
“The WBCA is pleased to name Ali Doswell as the 2017 WBCA NCAA Division III Player of the Year,” said Danielle Donehew, executive director of the WBCA. “Ali has played an integral role in guiding her team to an extraordinary season, and is very deserving of this distinguished honor. The WBCA applauds Ali for her hard work, dedication and contributions to the game during the 2016-17 season.”
