Bentley the coaches' preseason pick to win NCAA Division II crown in 2016-17

The Bentley University Falcons are the No. 1 team in the land according to the WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll. Bentley, coached by Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Barb Stevens, returns its four of its top five scorers (the fifth has been sidelined for the season due to injury) from last seasons' 29-6 team, which lost to eventual national champion Lubbock Christian in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight National Semifinals.

Rounding out the top 5 in the preseason poll are California Baptist, West Texas A&M, Emporia State and Ashland. Lubbock Christian, which graduated four starters from last season's national championship team, will begin the season ranked 11th.  Alaska-Anchorage, which lost to Lubbock Christian in the national championship game last April in Indianapolis, is ranked just ahead of the Lady Chaps at No. 10.
