ATLANTA (Feb. 13, 2020) — The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Pat Summitt Leadership Group (PSLG) have teamed up to develop and offer educational leadership programs for girls’ and women’s basketball coaches. Utilizing “coach of the century” Pat Summitt’s “Definite Dozen” principles, coaches and student-athletes alike will learn to become successful leaders both on and off the court through two new educational programs — the Pat Summitt Definite Dozen Leadership Kit and the Pat Summitt Online Leadership Program.
“We are excited to partner with the Pat Summitt Leadership Group to expand the WBCA’s current educational offerings for current and future members,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “By strategically aligning with the name Pat Summitt, this partnership will expand the WBCA’s reach within the girls’ and women’s basketball community and better enable the association to impact and educate more players and coaches to be future leaders.”
The Pat Summitt Definite Dozen Leadership Kit is a self-contained, easy-to-navigate leadership program designed for high school coaches to teach student-athletes specific ways they can achieve, grow and succeed in sport and in life. The kit comes with online access to 12 modules on Coach Summitt’s lessons, a student-athlete playbook, a coach’s guide, supplemental reinforcement materials for teams, and much more. With the purchase of a kit, a coach will receive a one-year membership in the WBCA — the professional association for coaches at all levels of the sport.
"Our goal is to unite coaches at all levels of our game and increase youth and high school coaches membership," said WBCA President Tricia Cullop, who is head women’s basketball coach at Toledo University. "We are extremely grateful to the Pat Summitt Leadership Group for not only providing an important leadership growth opportunity to our coaches but also for their forward-thinking to increase the WBCA membership."
The Pat Summitt Online Leadership Program is a 14-module online course designed to teach coaches the lessons of leadership from Coach Summitt. These modules are self-guided and designed to fit into a coach’s busy schedule.
Said Kim Blumenthal, co-founder and president of the Pat Summitt Leadership Group: “Coach Summitt was clearly a huge supporter of the WBCA and said, ‘Much of the growth that we’ve had in our sport stems from the WBCA and its membership.’ The Pat Summitt Leadership Group is honored to be collaborating with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to educate and inspire high school and college coaches in areas related to leadership and success using the principles put forth by Coach Summitt’s profound Definite Dozen.”
The Pat Summitt Definite Dozen Leadership Kit is available now and the Pat Summitt Online Leadership Program will be introduced at the 2020 WBCA Convention and will be available Aug. 1, 2020. For more information on either program, click here.
