WBCA statement on NCAA women’s basketball fund

ATLANTA (Aug. 7, 2024) — WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew releases a statement in response to the decision of the NCAA Division I Board of Directors to introduce a proposal to create women’s basketball distribution funds.

“The WBCA family of coaches is pleased that the NCAA is on the cusp of adopting women’s basketball funds to pay units to conferences for team participation and performance in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship as it has done in the men’s championship since 1991. This action will resolve a major gender equity discrepancy between the NCAA’s administration of the women’s and men’s basketball championships. The WBCA looks forward to celebrating the final approval of the funds at the NCAA Convention in January.”
