Wade Watch Spotlight: Kalani Brown; Katie Lou Samuelson

Baylor’s Kalani Brown and Connecticut’s Katie Lou Samuelson are this week’s Wade Watch Spotlight players.

 

Brown helped lead her team to two wins and an eighth consecutive Big 12 regular-season championship. She posted 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting in Baylor’s 88-51 win over Kansas. The junior from Slidell, Louisiana, continued her tremendous shooting night at the free-throw line making six of her eight attempts. Her work in the paint was tops in the game as she pulled down eight rebounds. The Bears’ center also dished out two assists and recorded a steal to round out her game. In Baylor’s 93-87 win over No. 6 Texas, the 6-foot-7 junior put up 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting and brought home the Bears’ eighth consecutive Big 12 regular-season championship. She was perfect from the charity stripe hitting all five attempts. Her 12 rebounds gave her a double-double. She also blocked a shot and grabbed a steal in the win over the Longhorns.
 

 

Samuelson put on a spectacular shooting display to help the Huskies get wins over Temple and Tulane last week.  She went 9-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from behind the arc while scoring 27 points in Connecticut’s 106-45 win over Temple. The junior from Huntington Beach, California, was perfect from the free-throw line making all five attempts. She snagged four rebounds and was tied for tops on the team in assists at five. During the Huskies’ 91-47 win at Tulane Samuelson kept the hot hand, going 6-of-10 from the field for 15 points. She hit 1-of-3 from 3-point range while making both free throw attempts. The 6-foot-3 guard/forward pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, seven coming on the defensive glass. Her seven assists were also the best in the game. She also logged three steals to finish up her well-rounded game.
