Statement of WBCA Executive Director Danielle M. Donehew on the Thursday, July 25, decision of the NCAA Division I Council to extend the current temporary recruiting dead period through Aug. 31:
“The WBCA has as its highest priority the health and wellbeing of coaches and student-athletes when presenting recommendations to the NCAA on recruiting opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic. While we had hoped coaches would be able to resume some recruiting activities in August, we fully understand and support the decision of the NCAA Division I Council to extend the recruiting dead period through August 31 particularly in light of the surge in positive cases over the last several days. The WBCA will continue to explore the possibility of safe and practicable recruiting scenarios for the fall and will work through the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee to recommend solutions we believe are in the best interests of everyone involved.”
