ATLANTA (March 6, 2017) – Megan Walker of Monacan High School is the 2017 WBCA High School Player of the Year and headlines the 2017 WBCA High School Coaches’ All-America team, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today.
The senior from Chesterfield, Virginia, scored her 2,000th career point March 2 during the 2017 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 4A Girls State Tournament quarterfinals. On the season, Walker has led the Chiefs to an undefeated 28-0 season. She averages 25.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Walker is a 2017 Naismith Trophy High School Girls Player of the Year finalist and a member of the 2017 McDonald’s All American East Team. In 2016, Walker was named Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, and was a member of the Naismith Trophy High School Girls All-American Second Team, the USA U18 National Team and the VHSL 4A All-State 1st Team. Walker earned the Virginia 4A Player of the Year title in 2015 and received Naismith Trophy High School Girls All-American Honorable Mention.
Walker will attend the University of Connecticut and play with the Huskies under Coach Geno Auriemma.

The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in each of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, junior/community college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches’ All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division.
