Most Valuable Player
For the second time in her professional career, Lauren Jackson (Seattle Storm)
was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.
All-WNBA Teams
First Team: Lauren Jackson (Seattle Storm), Becky Hammon (San Antonio Silver
Stars), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury), Deanna Nolan (Detroit Shock) and Penny
Taylor (Phoenix Mercury).
Second Team: Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), Katie Douglas (Connecticut Sun),
Tina Thompson (Houston Comets), Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx) and Sophia
Young (San Antonio Silver Stars).
Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award
Tully Bevilaqua (Indiana Fever) was named the recipient of the 2007 Kim Perrot
Sportsmanship Award.
Sixth Woman Award
Plenette Pierson (Detroit Shock) was named the first winner of the WNBA Sixth
Woman Award. She enjoyed a career year coming off the bench averaging 11.6
points and 5.8 rebounds in 25.2 minutes of play.
Most Improved Player of the Year
Janel McCarville (New York Liberty) was selected as the WNBA’s Most Improved
Player for 2007. Her average of 10.4 points is almost six points better than
last season. McCarville is also averaging more than one rebound higher per
game at 4.8.
Defensive Player of the Year
Lauren Jackson (Seattle Storm) was awarded 2007 WNBA Defensive Player of the
Year honors for the first time in her career. She led the league in rebounds
with 9.7 and was second in blocks with 2.0 this season.
All-Defensive Teams
First Team: Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), Lauren Jackson (Seattle Storm),
Katie Douglas (Connecticut Sun), Alana Beard (Washington Mystics) and Deanna
Nolan (Detroit Shock).
Second Team: Tully Bevilaqua (Indiana Fever), Rebekkah Brunson (Sacramento
Monarchs), Margo Dydek (Connecticut Sun), Loree Moore (New York Liberty) and
Chelsea Newton (Sacramento Monarchs).
WNBA Peak Performers
Lauren Jackson (Seattle Storm) and Becky Hammon (San Antonio Silver Stars)
have been named 2007 WNBA Peak Performers. Jackson led the league in both scoring
and rebounding with 23.8 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game while Hammon
finished as the league’s best playmaker averaging 5.0 assists per game.
Rookie of the Year
Armintie Price of the Chicago Sky was named the 2007 WNBA Rookie of the Year
after starting all 34 games where she averaged 7.9 points and 6.0 rebounds
per game.
All-Rookie Team
Armintie Price (Chicago Sky), Sidney Spencer (Los Angeles Sparks), Lindsey
Harding (Minnesota Lynx), Camille Little (San Antonio Silver Stars) and Marta
Fernandez (Los Angeles Sparks).
Coach of the Year
Dan Hughes, head coach of the San Antonio Silver Stars was named 2007 WNBA
Coach of the Year. The Silver Stars had their best season since Hughes’ arrival
with 20 wins.
