One of the most popular events of the WBCA National Convention has become the WNBA Party. The event is electric and offers the WBCA coaches a chance to meet the current and past stars of the WNBA.

Women’s basketball has come a long way since its beginnings in 1892 when Senda Berenson adapted James Naismith’s basketball rules for women. And with the continued growth of the WNBA, the sport is sure to go even further.

On April 24, 1996, women’s basketball announced “We Got Next” as the NBA Board of Governors approved the concept of a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to begin play in June 1997.

Since the inaugural season, the WNBA has expanded from eight teams to as many as 16 teams. There are presently 14 teams in WNBA, with the Atlanta Dream joining the league in 2008 season.
