Originally from Greenville, SC, Megan Smith was named the Manager of New Initiatives for the WBCA in August, 2008. Her primary duties are assisting with the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Foundation as well as the WBCA Pink Zone through marketing and sponsorship services, donor relations, research and event planning.
Megan comes to the WBCA after receiving her Master of Arts in Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, she completed a one-year internship with the athletics development office, The Rams Club.
As a graduate intern, Megan’s responsibilities included cultivating and soliciting annual fund, scholarship, major gift and capital project donors as well as assisting with Student Ram and Young Alumni programs.
Additional responsibilities included distributing promotional materials, assisting members with the ticket and parking program and event coordination.
Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in History from Presbyterian College. She also minored in Business Administration and International Studies. While at PC, Megan was a four-year starter for the women’s varsity soccer team. Throughout her college career, she was a 3-time recipient of Team MVP as well as First Team All-Conference honors.
In her final 2005 season as team co-captain, Megan was named South Atlantic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year and selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team.
For her senior spring semester, Megan interned with the Presbyterian College Athletics Director. Her responsibilities included attending all Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meetings, surveying Presbyterian College student-athletes in regards to the school’s transition to Division I and making informative presentations about the transition to various campus organizations, faculty and staff.
